Take a look at this chart from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In short, the unemployment rate has been steadily inching down. In its September 7, 2012 economic news release, the BLS said, “Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 96,000 in August, and the unemployment rate edged down to 8.1 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment increased in food services and drinking places, in professional and technical services, and in health care.”
John Zappe reported that the day before, the employment report from ADP said that the nation added more jobs in August than it has in the last five months. The 201,000 private sector jobs created last month far exceeded analysts’ estimates of about 140,000.
