Hire a Temporary Professional: Solve Your Staffing Problems Today!

It’s 9:00 AM and I’m just about to head in to a meeting when my phone rings insistently. It’s ABC Technology Company. They have an urgent need for an IT Network Administrator, since theirs just quit with no warning. No sooner do I hang up the phone when it rings again. This time it’s XYZ Aerospace Company. Their project is falling behind and they need a Mechanical Design Engineer to come in and make sure they meet their client needs and deadlines. As I finally gather my notebook to head in to a meeting, I get an email from 123 Technology Startup. It’s great news–they just got funding and now have an urgent need for a Cloud Architect. What do all three of these companies have in common? They all have a staffing problem–a problem that can be solved if they would simply hire a temporary professional. But why hire a contractor instead of a regular full-time employee? Here are five reasons why hiring a contract professional can benefit you and solve your staffing problems today.

1. Gain a true partner. Here’s the honest truth: We recruit all day, every day. Your HR department, while very skilled, is pulled in so many directions throughout the day, payroll, benefits, employee issues, just to name a few. Staffing is the last thing on their mind. If you find an agency that can truly partner with you, you’ve already solved your staffing problem. Technical staffing agencies have all the inside scoop on top notch talent. Sites like Career Builder and Monster, while great for locating available talent, aren’t always the “go to” sites for staffing agencies. We’ve got an untapped resource and a network of highly skilled, highly specialized talent that you won’t find, unless you partner with us. Want a Cloud Architect candidate to start working tomorrow? Done! Filled! Can your HR team provide that?

2. Receive expert knowledge and improved productivity. So you’ve got an immediate need for a technology expert, and to compensate for that need, you’ve pulled in three of your regular full-time employees to not only work on this new project but also to focus on all their other projects, simultaneously. This will create burnout quickly, especially if you consistently go to the top three to five individuals on your team. Even if they love what they do, you will burn them out. Hire a temporary professional to come in and meet the demands of unexpected projects, and you’ll receive his or her expert knowledge and improve your productivity in all areas with all employees. In fact, one study at the University of Illinois has shown that “temporary workers displayed better performance relative to goals compared to their full-time counterparts,” and that those temps later hired as full-time employees “continued to become better workers after becoming permanent.”

3. Save time. You’ve had a need for a long time. You filled it with a few permanent employees, but they didn’t quite work out for one reason or another. Meanwhile, the work is still there, and there’s no one else to cover in the meantime. With all the time it takes to find qualified permanent candidates to come in and meet with your various departments (HR, Hiring Manager, team, VP, CEO), schedules get in the way, and time is running out. In the meantime, a great solution is to hire a temporary professional to come in and start getting things done. You can still continue your search for the right fit to fill the permanent role, but while you’re searching, you have someone who specializes in working contracts who can make sure the work is getting done, at a high level, and on time. Which leads me to #4.

4. Try before you buy. Your temporary worker could actually turn out to be the perfect fit for your culture and environment. Better yet, you may find that he is more than capable of performing the day-to-day responsibilities of this position. He’s hired!

5. Save on costs. You will save money. When you hire a temporary professional, not only will you solve your staffing problems, but you will also be able to save money. The employment agency you’ve hired to find your contractors takes on the burden of benefits, payroll taxes, etc. You’re able to meet demands and fill the staffing need, plus you’re saving your company a little bit of money, too.

What’s not to like about finding a true working partner, receiving expert help, saving time, trying before you buy, and saving money? If you want to solve your staffing problems today, hire a temporary professional–an expert is just waiting to help!
